MQ5 Gas Sensor Semiconductor Sensor for Flammable Gases

MQ5 Gas Sensor module is useful for gas leakage detection (in home and industry). It is suitable for detecting H2, LPG, CH4, CO, Alcohol. MQ-5 gas sensor has high sensitivity to butane, propane, methane and can detect methane and propane at the same time. It also can detect kinds of flammable gases, especially LPG(propane).

MQ5 Gas Sensor has a sensitive filament made of SnO2. In the presence of clean air, this filament tends to have lower electrical conductivity. When a combustible gas such as LPG is introduced, the filament’s conductivity rises, and the amount of change in it’s onductance / resistance can be used to indicate the equivalent gas concentration.

This effect tends to be particularly pronounced at higher temperatures, and resistive heating element is present as well. SnO2 is particularly sensitive to Methane, Butane and Propane, but is also sensitive to other combustible gases as well.

The MQ5 Gas Sensor module is useful for gas leakage detecting. It can detect LPG, i-butane, methane, alcohol, Hydrogen, smoke and so on.

MQ2 can sense methane(CH4) upto 20000 ppm where as MQ5 can sense CH4 only upto 10000 ppm. The difference between MQ5 and MQ2 therefore lies in its range of values.
